About Dr. Marshall Smith

Dr. Marshall H. Smith is both a veteran of the United States Navy and the United States Army.  He served over 30 years of active duty service, achieving the rank of Colonel. After receiving a bachelor’s degree at Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he received his Doctorate in Medicine from Meharry Medical College.  He completed internship and residency training in Family Medicine and Psychiatry at the National Capital Consortium in Washington, D.C., and subsequently returned to Washington, D.C. and completed the National Capital Consortium Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship. During his fellowship, he evaluated and treated patients at the Clifton Perkins, Maximum Security, Forensic Hospital, in Jessup, Maryland and the Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital Forensic Ward, Washington, D.C.  He also did rotations with the Behavioral Analysis Unit of the Federal Bureau of Investigations, in Quantico, Virginia.

Dr. Smith obtained board certification from the American Board of Family Medicine, and the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, as an adult and forensic psychiatrist.  He has over 20 years of clinical experience evaluating and treating patients with mental illness, and has extensive experience evaluating and treating patients with alcohol use disorders. He is sought out by prosecutors and defense attorneys as a consultant in criminal cases, and has been employed as an expert witness in forensic psychiatry multiple times over the past 12 years.  He has testified in court cases internationally and given lectures on all aspects of mental health illnesses across the United States, Europe, Central America, and Asia.

Dr. Smith is dedicated to increasing awareness about the debilitating effects of alcohol in order to empower people to make wiser choices regarding drinking. He believes by increasing awareness we can also prevent a significant number of alcohol-related assaults.
